The Mineral Park mining district outside of Kingman, Arizona USA has proven to be one of the largest deposits of Turquoise on earth. This Turquoise is better known as "Kingman Turquoise". The deposit consists of three mines, the main Kingman mine, the Ithaca Peak mine, and the Turquoise Mountain mine. These three deposits of Turquoise produce different looks of natural and stabilized Turquoise. The Ithaca Peak Turquoise mine is well known for its natural deep blue Turquoise with silver color Iron Pyrite matrix. The main Kingman mine is known for producing the most material and producing rich blues that produce both Kingman Spiderweb Turquoise Cabochons and matrix free Kingman Turquoise Cabochons. The Turquoise Mountain Claim is known for its high grade spiderweb material. The Turquoise Mountain claim is well known for it's aqua blue and green Turquoise with golden yellow and brown webbed matrix. In the past all three mines produced a high percentage of natural high grade. Today, these mines are mainly being worked for Chaulk Turquoise that is stabilized and is best for production and fashion Turquoise jewelry. The chaulk Turquoise is more available, thus making is less expensive making it perfect for commercial use. The high grade natural is ultra rare and appears to be less then 1% of what the mine is currently producing. This makes natural high grade Kingman Turquoise ultra valuable, especially when cut into high grade Kingman Spiderweb Turquoise cabochons such as the ones to the left. This type of material has proven to only be hit when mining about every 30 years!

A Brief History on Kingman Turquoise

The Kingman Turquoise Mine also known as the Mineral Park Mining District is one of the oldest and highest producing Turquoise Mines in America. It was originally discovered by prehistoric Indians over 1000 years ago. Kingman Turquoise is known for its beautiful sky blue color and produces many variations of blue Turquoise. The Kingman Turquoise mine also produces green Turquoise from the Turquoise Mountain claims in the mine. Kingman Turquoise has been the biggest supplier of Turquoise to the Southwestern Turquoise Jewelry industry for nearly as long as the American Turquoise Jewelryindustry has existed. In fact, the Kingman Turquoise mine was once part of a Turquoise boom around 1000 AD when the Mayan culture was using a lot of Turquoise for self adornments and ceremonial items. Today, as in the old times, blue Turquoise from Kingman, Arizona is king, even though the mine produces all colors of Turquoise and green Turquoise is almost becoming blue Turquoise's equal in popularity these days.

The Mineral Park Mine, (Kingman Turquoise Mine,) is located in the Acerbate Mountains 14 miles northwest of Kingman, Arizona. It has been commercially mined since the late 1880's to the early 1900's by the Aztec Turquoise Co, The Los Angeles Gem Co, Arizona Turquoise Co, Southwest Turquoise Co and Mineral Park Turquoise Co and is now owned and operated by Colbaugh Processing Inc.
