Tortoise Spider Web Turquoise Cabochons

Ultra High Grade Spiderweb Turquoise Cabochons from the Tortoise Turquoise mine in Nevada

The Tortoise Turquoise mine is a small mine located in the Candelaria Hills of Nevada, USA. The mine is owned by the Hartmans and Robert Williams. Tortoise Turquoise rough produces a variety of colors. Spiderweb Turquosie Cabochons from the mine come in mint to emerald green, yellow, white and goes all the way to a caramel color which actually becomes Variscite. The unique coloration is the reason we named it Tortoise Turquoise, some rocks look like the shell of a Tortoise or like Tortoise Shell sunglasses. Tortoise Turquoise runs in black manganese. There are small to giant nuggets which are found in a clay type material as well as thin to wide vein material that is encrusted in walls of manganese. Much of the Tortoise Turquoise runs in veins.

A very large pecentage of the material has black manganese spiderwebbing, especially in the veined material. We believe the webbing is caused from pre-historic plant roots as the native plant found in this canyon which have roots that look like spiderwebs. We think, as the plant died, the roots became voids in the ground, and then the water carried the manganese minerals downward, which ultimately became black spiderweb matrix. This matrix makes for outstanding spiderweb Turquoise cabochons and spiderweb Variscite cabochons. Checkout our Tortoise Turquoise Video
