Vintage Turquoise Earrings

Vintage Turquoise Earrings

Vintage Turquoise Earrings

Vintage Turquoise Earrings - Antique and Vintage Turquoise Earrings are from two different time periods. The proper accepted age of a true antique is one
hundred years of age, Antique Turquoise Earrings were made 100 years previous to the current year. We consider Vintage Turquoise Earrings to be made from 1912 to 1960, major production and change came to Turquoise Jewelry as well as Turquoise Earrings and that is our cutoff date for what we consider Vintage Turquoise Earrings.

Vintage Turquoise Earrings from the Southwestern USA were made by the Navajo Indians, Zuni Indians, contemporary Southwestern Artisans and Jewelry manufacturing companies from the Southwestern U.S. as well as many other regions in the United States. The Navajo Native American Indian Silversmiths made a lot of Turquoise Earrings which are now Vintage Turquoise Earrings as their has been a huge market for Turquoise Earrings since the Navajo began making Turquoise Jewelry over 150 years ago. Zuni Native American Indians have been the major producers of Turquoise Earrings so their are a lot of Vintage Turquoise Earrings that were Zuni Indian made. As Turquoise Jewelry has been popular for over 150 years in the U.S., many Jewelry manufacturers throughout the Southwest as well as the rest of the U.S. have taken advantage of the Turquoise Jewelry market. There have been Jewelry manufacturers such as SunbellMaisels and the Fred Harvey company in the Southwest as well as other Jewelry Manufacturing Companies in Providence R. I and elsewhere that mass produced Turquoise Earrings which are now considered Vintage Turquoise Earrings.

The value of Vintage Turquoise Earrings varies greatly and is based upon who and where they were made, age, quality of craftsmanship, type and quality of their Turquoise and the condition of the Earrings. If the Turquoise Earrings were made to be inexpensive copies of authentic Navajo or Zuni Indian Jewelry, it is likely they are still fairly inexpensive today. If the Vintage Turquoise Earrings were made by Turquoise Jewelry Manufacturers in the Southwest that produce high quality Turquoise Jewelry, they are most likely much more valuable then the copies of Southwest Turquoise Earrings. If the Turquoise Earrings were made by a noted Navajo or Zuni Turquoise Jewelry Artisan and were made with high quality Turquoise, your Vintage Turquoise Earrings could be very valuable. It take a qualified and knowledgeable person in the Turquoise Jewelry field to accurately evaluate Vintage Turquoise Earrings.

John Hartman of Durango Silver Company in Durango Colorado USA is very knowledgeable in this field as he has been a Turquoise Jewelry dealer and collector for well over forty years. The Coral sunburst design stud earrings are of a vintage Indian Jewelry style but were made by Durango Silver Company recently. The Vintage Turquoise Butterfly Earrings on the right were made about 1940 and were produced by the Fred Harvey Company. The Fred Harvey Company was a giant Turquoise Jewelry manufacturing company that produced Silver Jewelry for National Parks such as the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and many others. The stamped out the Jewelry designs with commercial power presses and had Native American Indians, Anglos and Hispanics setting stones and finishing the pieces in mass production. These silver earrings are a great example of Fred Harvey style Vintage Turquoise Earrings.
