Royston is a district near Tonopah, Nevada consisting of three main, famous old turquoise mines: Bunker Hill, Oscar Wehrend, and the main producer, The Royal Blue. In recent years the Otteson's who own the Royston claims have named other parts of the claims. The highest producer they call "High Grade Hill". Royston Turquoise is known for its beautiful colors ranging from deep green to rich, light blues which are set off by a heavy brown matrix. The royston mine produces everything from clear blue Turquoise to green Turquoise with spiderweb matrix and blue to green fade Turquoise. The Royston mine is producing a little high grade Turquoise today, and a fair amount of commercial grade Turquoise. The Otteson's process most of their material into finished cabs and allow very little rough to come onto the market. The Otteson's are firm believers in not stabilizing material and throw all the chalk and low grade Turquoise in the dumps. This controlled output and high quality control has raised the price of this material considerably in recent years.
