Native Bands from the American Southwest are beautiful and have a lot of character. Native Bands and Silver Jewelry began in the Southwestern United States about 1865 when a Navajo Blacksmith named Atsidi Sani learned how to work Silver from the Spaniards who were in this are in search of Gold and Silver. Native Bands were some of the first types of Silver Jewelry made by the Navajo Silversmiths in the early years of Indian Jewelry. They were highly sought after by the Navajo people and it was not long before many Navajos took up Silversmithing to make a living.

Southwestern Native Bands

By the 1920′s, tourism had begun in the Southwest and Native Bands of Silver were one of the most popular item the tourists wanted for souvenirs. By the 1930′s, Indian Traders from the Southwest were bringing Native Bands and Indian Jewelry out west to Southern California and Hollywood. Turquoise Jewelry, Silver Jewelry and Native Bands became very popular in California and a giant new market for Southwestern Silver Jewelry took off in the brisk California marketplace.

Today, Native Bands from the American Southwest are world class and have some of the most creative designs of any Silver Jewelry being made. Polishing a Mens Band

In the photo you can see I am using a mandrel to hold the Mens Band as it gets very hot when buffing. I use a cutting compound for smoothing the Silver Ring out, I then clean it real good in an ultrasonic cleaner and then I use Zam polishing compound to get a high shine.

Finishes of our Mens Bands

We are going to have several finishes on our Mens Bands, high shine, satin and our Vintage look. We have a lot of individuals that love our Vintage look which has an antique black oxidation, we will have a finish chart up online for our Mens Band Rings soon and you can see what or finishes look like.
