Who is Durango Silver Company?
Durango Silver Company is a family jewelry company from Durango, Colorado USA. The Founders of Durango Silver Company are John, Estell and Dillon Hartman. John and Estell Hartman have been in the jewelry business since the 1960s. John and Estell Hartman Started in Southern California and moved to Albuquerque in the 1970s and had a thriving Turquoise Jewelry business for 6 years. They moved to Durango, Colorado and have been Durango Colorado Jewelers ever since. Along their path in the jewelry business they have met many famous jewelers, miners and others. They have mined Stormy Mountain Turquoise with Cutler Edgar. They have had their jewelry in several magazines including Arizona Highways, Lapidary Journal, Cowboys and Indians, Albuquerque Marketeer, Sundance Catalog, Coldwater Creek, Back in the Saddle, and more. They were the inovators of the Bear Claw Jewelry styles in Southwestern Jewelry. Today we are major force in the Turquoise industry. Dillon Hartman is partners (owner) in several Turquoise mines in Nevada. We are stone cutters, jewelers and have a large gallery in Durango, Colorado USA. We have several informational websites on jewelry, gemstones and of coarse Turquoise.
Our Jewelry is handmade in Durango, Colorado USA from Sterling Silver, 14k, 18k and 24k gold. We use highgrade natural gemstones and specialize in HIGHGRADE NATURAL AMERICAN TURQUOISE. We use every gemstone you can think of and some you may not know.
We hand make our jewelry the old way with Accetalyne Plumbers Torches from Sterling Silver or Gold Sheet, Solder and Wire. We hand solder, file, buff, stamp, chase, repose, patena, and polish all of our jewelry. Part of what we consider the art of our jewelry is that we us the old methods to make, it may be slower... but it takes a lot more skill. We would rather make quality than quantity.
We DO NOT USE Cadcam or any other mechanized or computerized techniques to creat our jewelry.
We hand cut our Turquoise, Sugilite, Variscite and other Gemstones. This means we buy or mine our gemstones in the rough, we then saw them with a lapidary saw, and then we shape them on a series of diamond grinding wheels. Finally we polish them with a super fine grit lapidary powder. We do not use templates, or a machine to mass produce matching stones.
We are VERY SERIOUS about our gemstones!

Trading Company, it has become one of the most historic trading
companies in the Four Corners region. Heading west from Durango
towards Mesa Verde National Park, travel about four miles until you
see a large log lodge building with a huge arch of deer antlers out
front. This arch consists of over 3,600 deer and elk shed antlers from
this area. It is an awesome site and you will want to take your
pictures here.

jewelry in which we use gold nuggets, elk teeth, high grade gold ore
and fine stones. We use beautiful Bisbee Blue, Blue Gem, Villa Grove,
and other rare American Turquoise in our jewelry. We are authorities
and major enthusiasts of fine turquoise. We mine our own Turquoise from our mines in Nevada (The Pilot Mountain Mine, Tortoise Turquoise Mine, Haley's Comet Mine, Turquoise Bonanza Mine, Miss Moffet Mine) as well as our friends mines (Blue Diamond Mine, Carico Lake Turquoise Mine, Fox Turquoise Mine, Royston Turquoise Mine, White Buffalo Mine, Lone Mountain Mine and more).
